About

Creative leadership with a commercial backbone.

I am Rire Nakpodia. For twenty-four years I have led brand and creative for category-defining retail, from editorial pages at The New York Times to a $100M+ digital commerce portfolio at The Children’s Place. I care about the same thing at every scale: work that is beautiful and work that performs.

For twenty-four years I have led brand and creative for category-defining retail, from editorial pages at The New York Times to a $100M+ digital commerce portfolio at The Children’s Place. I care about the same thing at every scale: work that is beautiful and work that performs. My work lives where brand storytelling meets the P&L — art direction, e-commerce, and the systems that tie them together. I’ve built and led creative teams, launched new brands from zero, and reshaped how those teams work day to day. The constant is judgment: knowing what to make, why it matters, and how to ship it without lowering the bar on craft.

Available for fractional, contract, and full-time. Remote or NY metro.

The path runs through the craft.

I started in editorial and print art direction, then moved into e-commerce and digital just as retail was reinventing itself online. That gave me a rare vantage point. I can sit with a photographer on set, a merchant on margin, and an engineer on site speed, and keep all three pointed at the same outcome.

Today I lead as a fractional and full-time creative partner, and I teach the next generation of designers as an adjunct professor at NYIT. AI is part of how I work now, not as a gimmick but as a way to move at market speed without lowering the bar on craft.
